Day walk
Enjoy the untouched beauty of Dana Biosphere Reserve
This memorable one‑day walk descends from the stone terraces of Dana Village into the heart of the Dana Biosphere Reserve, Jordan’s largest and most biologically diverse protected area. The route offers sweeping views, shifting landscapes and a rare chance to experience multiple ecosystems in a single day.
The walk begins in Dana Village, perched on the edge of the Great Rift Valley, where traditional sandstone houses overlook the vast Wadi Dana. From here, the trail winds steadily downhill, following an ancient route used for centuries by traders and shepherds. As you descend, the air warms and the scenery changes from cool highland slopes to rugged desert terrain.
Along the way, walkers pass through juniper woodlands, rocky cliffs and wide wadis, with opportunities to spot wildlife such as ibex, birds of prey, and colourful desert flora. The route offers frequent panoramic viewpoints, making it ideal for photography and quiet moments to take in the scale and silence of the landscape.
The walk ends in the Feynan Valley, a remote desert basin known for its archaeological history and copper‑mining past, now home to the award‑winning Feynan Eco‑Lodge. From here, return transport can be arranged back to Dana Village or onward to your next destination.
